Volunteer: Senior Shopping ProgramThank you for your interest in volunteering with the Senior Shopper Program. We are providing grocery shopping every week for clients. All of our clients live in Somerset County and we do our best to match you with someone who lives nearby to you. This program is designed to assist homebound individuals ages 60 and over. Community volunteers will provide weekly grocery shopping, food delivery and visiting services with the primary purpose of enabling older persons to maintain themselves in their place of residence by removing barriers to their care and well-being. The clients pay for their groceries. This service is funded by and requires a referral from the Somerset County Office on Aging and Disability Services. Volunteer: Family MentorGeneral Statement of Requirements
Family Mentor volunteers are matched with a vulnerable family who has had an assessment by the licensed JFS Program Coordinator. The Mentor provides approximately weekly in person contact with the family in order to provide support, information, access to resources and promotion of quality family life. Together they work toward goals established by the family. Volunteers must commit to 12 months of service (1-2 hours per week). Vacations are allowed but should be reported to the Program Coordinator. Alternate arrangements, such as longer visits bi-monthly, can be made with discussion and agreement by all parties. Responsibilities Provide weekly contact (or as otherwise arranged) with family members. Visits generally last between 60 and 90 minutes and are arranged at a mutually convenient time. Complete all required paperwork at time of enrollment Submit monthly the number of hours volunteered including all contacts with family and related activities, such as travel, dining, telephone contact, activities related to work with the family. The Mentor provides weekly visits to offer companionship, mental stimulation, support, information, access to resources, and promotion of quality of life. Professional staff members of the agency provide assessment, matching, supervision through both individual and monthly group supervisory sessions. Volunteers commit to 12 months of service to the senior (1-2 hours per week). Respite/vacation needs of the volunteer are understandable and should be shared with the JFS Program Coordinator. Alternate visitation arrangements can be made with discussion and agreement by the senior, the mentor, and the Program Coordinator.
